OUR VESPA RENTAL SERVICE

Hop on your Vespa and follow our easy step-by-step routes that will lead you through Rome effortlessly — no planning needed, just pure “Dolce Vita” riding.

Exploring Rome on a Vespa means total freedom and iconic Italian style. With Buzz4tours, it gets even easier: each Vespa includes a smartphone holder and access to our curated digital itineraries, guiding you effortlessly through the city’s highlights and hidden gems.

Our Vespa Primavera 125cc is ideal for City sightseeing and easy handling, while the 300cc model offers greater comfort and power — perfect for two riders or anyone seeking a more dynamic ride. Both models deliver that unmistakable “Dolce Vita” feeling, enhanced by modern safety and reliability.

You’ll also enjoy flexible return options: you can drop off your Vespa even when our office is closed, thanks to a simple and secure after-hours procedure. Plus, benefit from free parking and access to traffic-restricted areas (ZTL), giving you the freedom to reach every sight without hassle.

*Important for your safety:
  1. Only confident, experienced scooter drivers can take part in this tour. “Experienced” means having ridden a scooter or motorcycle multiple times recently (at least 10 times). E-bikes and kick scooters do not count. Your safety — and your enjoyment — come first.
  2. Children can ride as passengers only if they are able to safely reach the foot pegs while sitting as passengers on the Vespa. As a reference, this typically requires an inside leg measurement of approximately 55 cm. Children who cannot comfortably reach the foot pegs will not be able to participate for safety reasons.

Frequently Asked Questions

European Law requires all NON European driving licenses to be accompanied by an international driving permit (IDP).

You can easily get an IDP in your home country—the process is usually quick and straightforward, and in many countries it’s also available online.

We are allowed to rent you the vehicle with your national driving licence, but if you get stopped by the authorities you may be opened to a fairly large fine for not having an IDP.

In Italy, you can drive vehicles up to 125cc (including our Vespas 125) with a regular car licence. If your intention is to rent a Vespa 300, then yes — you will need a motorcycle licence.

No. Driving in bus lanes is not permitted. If you do so, the fine is €95, plus €20 we charge to manage the fine!

Bus lanes are easy to spot once you know what to look for! They are usually marked with:

  • The word BUS painted clearly on the road
  • A continuous yellow or white line separating the lane

If you see these markings, it means the lane is reserved for buses, taxis, and emergency vehicles!

ZTL stands for Zona a Traffico Limitato — “Zone Traffic Limited”. These are areas in Rome where access is normally limited to authorised vehicles.

The good news?
Scooters — including our Vespas — can access almost all ZTL areas in the city.

However, there is one very important exception: ZTL A1 – Tridente (Centro Storico)

  • Located around Via del Corso, Piazza di Spagna, Via di Ripetta, Via del Babuino.
  • Marked by a bright A1 sign, often with a neon/lighted frame.
  • If you see the A1 sign, you must NOT enter — not even with a scooter.

And a crucial tip: Even if you see other cars or scooters entering, don’t be misled — they likely have a special permit that you do NOT have.

In short: ZTL A1 → NO / All other ZTLs → YES!

Vespa rentals are valid for 24 hours from the moment you pick up the vehicle. For example, if you start your rental at 9:30 AM, it officially ends at 9:30 AM the following day.

However, we understand that many customers prefer to return the Vespa the evening before, especially if they have an early flight to catch or simply don’t want to come back early the next morning and that’s absolutely fine!

You can return your Vespa at any time, even after our office has closed — whether it’s 8 PM, 11 PM, midnight, or whenever suits you best. The after-hours drop-off is simple and fully explained during check-in.

Everything is organised to ensure a safe, smooth, and stress-free return, so you can enjoy Rome at night without worrying about drop-off times.

YES, YES, YES!

We only rent scooters to experienced riders — riding a Vespa in Rome without proper experience isn’t just stressful… it can be dangerous.

So what do we mean by experienced?

  • You must be a confident, experienced scooter or motorcycle rider
  • “Experienced” means you have ridden a scooter or motorbike multiple times recently — at least 10 times
  • E-bikes and kick scooters do NOT count
  • Your safety (and enjoyment!) come first

Not experienced enough? No problem — rent a Buzz instead! Less iconic than a Vespa, perhaps, but absolutely just as fun.

  • Driving license: Car license up to 125cc. Motorcycle license for anything larger and in any case proficient driving experience of motorcycles/scooter or mopeds.
  • For non-European Union licences: We strongly recommend bringing an International Driving Permit (IDP).
  • Card details required (no deposit charged): A credit or debit card is needed. No deposit will be taken, but card details will be stored securely in case of fines or damages.
  • Families traveling with children: Children may join the tour only if they can safely reach the rear foot pegs while seated as passengers. This typically requires an inside leg measurement of at least 55 cm.

You have several parking options in Rome, and scooters are generally very easy to park:

  • Scooter bays (white painted rectangles) — the ideal place
  • Wherever you see other scooters parked — as long as you are not obstructing traffic or entrances

Using common sense works great: in nearly 8 years, we have never received a parking fine for a scooter.

You can also park along a continuous blue line (where cars park). But be careful! Parking among cars means your scooter could be knocked over, and in that case you would unfortunately be responsible for any resulting damages.

Stick to scooter bays when possible — they’re safer and designed for two-wheelers.

No! Scooter are not allowed in pedestrian areas!

Look for this specific sign:

  • A blue circular sign
  • With a white walking figure in the middle
  • Often accompanied by the words “AREA PEDONALE” (which means pedestrian area)

When you see this sign, it means no motorised vehicles may enter — not even scooters or Vespas, and not even just to “pass through”!

Pedestrian areas are strictly enforced, so make sure to avoid them to keep both yourself and pedestrians safe.

The rule is simple: only vehicles over 250cc are allowed on motorways (autostrade) in Italy.

Since it depends on the engine size:

  • Our Vespa 125cc models cannot access the motorway
  • Our Vespa 300cc models can access the motorway, as they exceed 250cc

Always check which model you’re renting before planning a route that includes motorway sections.

The minimum age is 21 with a valid driving licence.

However, if you are traveling with your parents or adult guardians, you may drive the Buzz from 18 years old, as long as you hold a valid licence!

Yes — you can take a child as a passenger, but only if they can safely reach the foot pegs while seated on the Vespa.

As a guideline, this usually requires an inside leg measurement of at least 55 cm. If a child cannot comfortably reach the foot pegs, they cannot be passengers for safety reasons.

But no worries — in this case, you can simply rent a Buzz instead, which is perfect for families and completely child-friendly!

You are fully covered for third-party damages. In case of theft, you are liable for 20% of the vehicle’s value, based on Eurotax quotations. This keeps you protected while ensuring clear and transparent responsibility!

No deposit is taken.

We simply register your credit or debit card details in our secure system, as required by insurance in case of traffic fines or accidental damage.

In the unlikely event that you receive a fine, don’t worry — the process is simple and it’s fully managed by us!

Fines are linked to the vehicle, and the vehicle is linked to the driver’s details provided at check-in. This means the fine is sent directly to our office. Once we receive it, we:

  1. Scan the fine
  2. Email it to you, including all the official details
  3. As per the relevant clause in your contract, we will process the payment using the card details you provided at check-in
  4. Add a €20 administration fee for handling the fine

You’ll receive full documentation, and everything is taken care of smoothly and transparently

Yes. The maximum combined weight depends on the engine size of the Vespa:

  • Vespa 125cc → maximum load 160 kg
  • Vespa 300cc → maximum load 180 kg

Staying within these limits ensures safe handling and proper performance.

If your combined weight exceeds the limit for the model you rented (160 kg for 125cc or 180 kg for 300cc), the Vespa cannot be used safely.

In this case, you would need to rent two Vespas.
Discounts may apply during the low season.

Absolutely! At check-in, we provide you with ready-made itineraries created by us after 13+ years of experience helping visitors explore Rome.
  • If you rent a Buzz buggy, you’ll receive an iPad with preloaded routes you can follow easily.
  • If you rent a Vespa, we give you access to our Google Maps itineraries, designed specifically for scooters.
These routes include the best viewpoints, hidden gems, and must-see highlights — a real added value that makes exploring Rome effortless and fun.
Useful information
How to reach Buzz4Tours?

You may easily catch a train from Civitavecchia’s main railway station (Stazione Centrale) to Roma San Pietro.
The direct train takes around 40 minutes, while other services with additional stops take closer to an hour, so both options are perfectly normal.
Once you arrive, our office is just a 10-minute walk away.

If you’d rather skip the walk and dive straight into your adventure, you can also have your Buzz/Vespa delivered directly to the station for €12.00 — a small extra that often saves precious time and gets you moving instantly.

For train times, see: TRENITALIA

Get off at Ottaviano and take the exit toward Via Ottaviano / Vatican City.
Walk straight along Via Ottaviano until you reach Piazza del Risorgimento.
Cross the square and enter Borgo Sant’Angelo.
Take the fourth street on the right, Via degli Ombrellari, and continue straight to Vicolo d’Orfeo 8.
The walk takes about 7 minutes.

We know it may sound a little tricky but in fact it’s very easy – more of a “pleasant stroll” than a “mission impossible”

A taxi ride to us from central areas should not cost more than around €10/12 (it is useful to tell the driver that Vicolo D’Orfeo is near the Vatican and “Borgo Pio”).

A delivery and Pick-up service is available for central areas only at the extra return cost of €20.00 per Buzz or Vespa or at €25.00 either way.

NB: If you are renting more than one vehicle, it will be cheaper to get a taxi and come to us!
